Putting Solar Roof Shingles To Work

Most people who look at a roof do not realize the potential that is lying there on a daily basis.  However, the same does not hold true for companies like SunPower Corporation, BP Solar, and Uni-Solar who have all stumbled upon a new kind of shingle that not only will save you money, but will do it without being seen.  The world of solar powered shingles is just now starting to take off in the states, but has been seeing great attention in Europe and Asia.  Solar roof shingles are not only taking off, but are transforming the new standard of what is being put on the home.

In the past if you wanted to take advantage of solar power on your roof it required you installing heavy and bulky systems that not only look hideous, but were acceptable to weather and therefore possible damage that would cost you more money in the long run.  However, those days are gone with the invention and surge of solar roof shingles being manufactured by companies all over the world and being used with great success.

Solar roof shingles are not only useful for the money they will save you, but are made with the same kind of asphalt single is used, however there is more than meets the eye with solar roof shingles.  Certain brands like EnergyPeak even come with a calculator that will help you determine the estimated performance of those shingles and possible money saved by using them.  The solar roof shingles are installed very similar to standard shingles, while some vary slightly based on the design of the solar technology.  While the specific way that the solar energy is gotten and transferred from brand to brand, the overall success is standard from one company to another.

Since this is such a new thing for most homes here in the states, it's important to check out the user reviews of a specific brand if you want to inquire about more specifics in this area.

Strengths and Weaknesses of this Type of Roofing Material

The major advantages of using solar roof shingles are obvious in how much money that can be saved in the long run by using such a technology.  The disadvantages are just as obvious in the amount of cash that is going to have to be forked over at the beginning of a building project.
