This area is well known for its archways, secret corners, and many beautiful flowers. Some of the favorite flowers of this area are the roses, lavender, and lilies. Another area of the Kensington roof gardens is the English woodland garden. This area is home to some ducks, and two flamingos known as Ben and Bill. The area has many trees, over thirty varieties are known of on the rooftop.
The Kensington roof gardens is the largest roof garden in Europe, which is why there are so many people who visit to see what the garden is actually like. It is such an unlikely location for a garden, which is maybe why the Kensington roof gardens is so popular. It is on top of a department store in the busy shopping district of Kensington. It also sits almost 100 feet above street level, so the gardens are not really visible from the street level at all.
An architect named Ralph Hancock was commissioned to create the garden oasis on top of the department store named Derry and Tom's Department Store. In a little over two years, Hancock planted over 500 species of plans on the one and a half acres above the department store.
The Kensington roof gardens is one of the places to visit if ever in England. It is one of the best places to shop and feel like there is a sense of peace and life in the middle of a busy shopping area.
